Quote the moment, not the whole video.
theTopView is a video app built on one idea nothing else has: you can lift a single moment out of a video — four seconds, one frame, a comment, a line someone said — and publish that, with the original still attached underneath.
Why resharing is not enough
Passing on a whole video is a blunt gesture. The thing that made you want to pass it on — a sentence, a look, the four seconds in the middle — is left for the next person to go and find, and most of the time they do not. What you meant is lost on the way.
A reTop starts from the moment instead. You choose it first, and the reTop is that moment. Your own words stay separate from the thing you are quoting, which is the part that makes a quote worth trusting, and the original post travels with it so anyone can go back to the source.
Five ways to quote something
- Clip — a section of the video, between two timestamps, that actually plays.
- Frame — one still, taken at the moment you picked.
- Cover — the post's own cover, for when the whole thing is the point.
- Comment — someone's comment, quoted as text and snapshotted, so it keeps saying what it said.
- Quote — a line of speech or text, optionally over a backdrop you choose.

Conversations that stay readable
A reTop can be reTopped in turn. When that happens the two are not shown as separate posts in a row — the original sits underneath with the responses fanned over it, so a chain three deep is still legible to someone arriving at the end of it. Every layer keeps the thing it is about attached to it rather than referring to it.
Stories and stacks covers how to read one.
Your account, set the way you want it
Private or public is one switch, and it is not the only one. Your reTops, your followers and following lists, the videos you liked and the posts you saved are four separate decisions — a public account with a private liked list is an ordinary combination here, not a workaround.
Privacy controls goes through every one of them.
Where to get it
theTopView is an app for iOS and Android, and this website is the same client in a browser — the same feeds, profiles and players, so a link someone sends you opens whether or not you have installed anything.
